Have fun. Celebrate.

After every game, I always ask my son “Did you have fun?” Because that really is the most important thing about the game, isn’t it? If we are not enjoying ourselves, who or what are we going through the motions for? Celebrate where you are every step of the way.

Some of you may know that I recently returned from visiting family in Vail. My one year old nephew, Jack, knows where “it’s” at.

Does this kid know how to party, or what?

Long Live the Free Lunch!

“There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch” is a popular adage communicating the idea that it is impossible to get something for nothing. The acronym TANSTAAFL has also been used, dating back to the 1930s and 1940s. (via Wikipedia)

But enough of the history lesson. Is this really true? Is it really impossible to get something for nothing? I often offer free help and answers to my online and IRL community, but do I have an ulterior motive? And if so, am I aware of it, or is it subconscious? Is this really all about brand building and self promotion and networking (oh my!)? Or do some people really want to help out of the goodness of their hearts? I really hope it is the latter. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Have patience.

Mostly, I am directing this post to myself. Anyone that knows me knows that patience is so not virtue of mine. My son started pitching this year. He becomes so anxious and frustrated with himself at times. Sound familiar?

But I think he is learning that if he slows down and connects with the moment, he can find his rhythm. I am trying to teach myself that same lesson. We have to try various approaches until we find our groove. Everyone will have their day to really knock something out of the park.

There’s More to it than Wearing Pajamas to Work

To me, independence means having the freedom to:

run my business with integrity
travel and soak up everything I can from this world’s people and places
continue learning and incorporating new things
align myself with fabulous, positive, and inspiring people
make every day a mindful and worthwhile experience

These are just a few examples of why I am so grateful to do what I do.

If you build it, they will come.

I have never compared myself to a movie character. But, I’m turning 36 years old this summer. I, too, love my family. And I love watching my son play baseball. And I’m about to become a farmer blogger. And any crazy things that I might have done in my life happened in my early 20’s. Including hearing voices. But here’s the thing: maybe I just haven’t been listening to the voices lately. Have you? And I don’t mean the idle chatter of the naysayers. I mean the voices that only we can hear, and then all too often disregard. So here I am. And I’m listening.

And BTW, no, I don’t actually believe that if I simply build a blog, anyone will come. Building a field of dreams doesn’t happen overnight.
